More About Citation Ultra

Cessna’s unwavering commitment to producing straightforward and cost-effective business jets reaches its pinnacle in the Citation Ultra. When it comes to private jets in its class, few can rival its exceptional combination of cabin space, speed, and takeoff performance.

The cabin of the Citation Ultra is a spacious haven capable of comfortably accommodating up to eight passengers. Stretching an impressive seventeen feet and five inches in length, it boasts the longest cabin among its peers. To enhance the sense of space, Cessna has employed seamless wall panels, indirect lighting, and strategically placed mirrors. Passengers can indulge in individual flat panel entertainment systems and optional audio jacks for a personalized in-flight experience. With ample storage space, the Ultra offers twenty-six cubic feet of external baggage capacity, equivalent to around 600 pounds of luggage, golf bags, or any other essentials you wish to bring along.

One of the most compelling features of the Ultra is its remarkably short takeoff distance. Even when fully loaded to its maximum takeoff weight of 16,300 pounds, it can ascend into the skies with just 3,200 feet of runway. But the Ultra doesn’t just excel at takeoff; it also boasts impressive speed capabilities at a cruise altitude of 37,000 feet. With a maximum cruise speed of 426 knots, it can swiftly cover long distances.

The secret behind the Ultra’s impressive speed lies in its innovative wing design. Staying true to the Citation lineage’s tradition of simplicity and efficiency, the Ultra features the fastest straight wing design ever seen in the Citation series. The result of collaboration between a Cessna aerodynamicist and a NASA counterpart, this wing boasts a large leading-edge radius and a flat upper surface, facilitating improved airflow distribution, reduced drag, and a remarkable increase in cruise speed by 0.08 Mach, equivalent to 46 knots.

While the wing design plays a crucial role in speed, the Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5D turbofan engines provide the brawn. Each engine generates a robust 3,045 pounds of thrust, with blades crafted from a single-crystal alloy that is part of a wide-chord blade design. Refined through cutting-edge computer software, this design enhances aerodynamic performance. The utilization of this new alloy also permits a substantial increase in the inner tube temperature, a remarkable 68 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the recent JT15D5-5A engines, effectively minimizing air leaks and boosting aerodynamic efficiency.

These powerful engines not only propel the Ultra but also provide essential bleed air support for its systems, including anti-icing, cabin pressurization, and air conditioning. The temperature control system is designed for maximum convenience, enabling separate temperature settings for the cabin and cockpit.

When it comes to avionics, simplicity reigns supreme. The Honeywell Primus 1000 suite, featured in the Ultra, showcases meticulous attention to detail by consolidating multiple displays into four easy-to-read screens, placing controls within close proximity for enhanced pilot coordination and performance. Gone are the days of confusion, replaced by intuitive systems designed to optimize the flight experience.

In summary, the Citation Ultra is the embodiment of efficiency, luxury, and performance. Its enduring popularity is a testament to its remarkable qualities, making it the perennial choice for those who seek uncompromising excellence in private aviation.
